In January 2008, we acquired 142 paiche from a closing project funded by Ucayali's Regional Government with the aim of continuing the efforts to scientifically develop an aquaculture technique for Paiche and increase our broodstock.
The transportation of these Paiche required over 3 months of detailed planning, design of special transportation boxes to limit stress, over 80 people were involved and significant investment was made in the design and provision of the required infrastructure and tools.
With the same care one would look after a baby, 100% of our Paiche survived the over 18-hour trip by river, land and air and after dedicated care, feeding and study we managed to develop a sex determination protocol for the species, identify and chip code each fish, which today, along with other reproduction species form our diverse and healthy broodstock.
